Drivers seeking a Class A or B CDL, who did not hold a valid CDL of that class before February 7, 2022, must complete the required training
Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) in Texas, and nationwide, requires drivers to complete a standardized program from a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)-listed Training Provider Registry before taking their CDL skills test. The training covers specific theory and behind-the-wheel instruction outlined by the FMCSA for the class of CDL being sought. The standards are federal and apply in Texas
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has implemented regulations for obtaining certain types of Commercial Driver’s License (CDLs). These regulations fall under the umbrella of ELDT, and they apply to specific categories of CDL applicants.
Who needs ELDT?
The ELDT requirements do not apply to individuals holding a valid CDL or an S, P, or H endorsement issued prior to February 7, 2022.
There are specific exemptions to the ELDT requirements for individuals who meet certain criteria outlined in 49 CFR Part 383.
